Charles Arrington Gwatkin was known by his nephews as "Uncle Monk." He had the habit of lisning to one sports game on the radio while watching a separate game on the black-and-white TV in the hose on Panorama Drive, near the University of Richmond.
He died by suicide, using a rifle. That may be the reason his funeral was held at the home of his brother-in-law, Peyton Grymes, at 1812 Main Streeet in the Fan District of Richmond.
