Mann Page was the grandson of Alice Grymes and Mann Page. In 1794 he established his plantation in York County across Carter's Creek from Rosewell.
He named his home "Shelly" (for the local marl) rather than used the local name Werowicomico, which was considered too hard to pronounce.1
