Her father was born in Catalonia, Spain, and came to Louisiana as a military officer when it was still Spanish territory. Don Bartolomé Bosque stayed when Louisiana was transferred to France and then the United States in 1800, and was remained one of the elite as new United States officials came to New Orleans.

At the age of 16, she married Gov. William C. C. Claiborne. An obituary later described her as "beautiful and accomplished, superbly endowed by nature and charmingly cultivated..."1

The marriage lasted five years and they had two children. Claiborne died in 1817, before he could start serving a term for which he had been elected by the legislature to the US Senate.

After his death, "Suzette" traveled to Europe. She returned to New Orleans and married the socially popular US Attorney, John Randolph Grymes. They never divorced, but separated when she moved to New York City. In 1836, she purchased land on Staten Island and built a villa he called "Capo di Monte" (Top of the Mountain). Members of the Vanderbilt and Cunard families built mansions on what became known as Grymes Hill. The area is still noted for its luxury homes.

She moved to Paris, where she could converse in seven languages. She died there in 1881.2
